PULLED APART BY HORSES - MEAT BALLOON

Momentum has been building steadily over the past few months for PABH and the band have quickly grabbed attention from the likes of Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, Scottish rising-stars Dananananaykroyd and the inquisitive minds of some of Britain’s most recognizable indie labels. Their sometimes angular but mostly aggressive, amp-melting blend of 70s rock riffs and contemporary alt-noise has seen them climb to the top of Leeds’ musical pile and establish themselves as one of the most essential new acts in Britain. They also played this years Leeds & Reading festival after being asked by Radio 1. Meat Balloon is an energetic, infectious, ball-crushing, grungey, filthy jaunt through 4 minutes of steroid induced pleasure. If this doesn’t have you feeling ready to punch someone in the teeth at any minute then it will have you rolling around your room/office/floor screaming ‘AWESOME! RADICAL! TOTALLY BODACIOUS!’ air-guitaring your face off in nothing but your skiddied pants. If you react in any other way then B-side ‘The Lighthouse’ should top off your testosterone sufficiently.
Super-indie Big Scary Monsters, current/previous home to Tubelord, Cats and Cats and Cats, Jeniferever and Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, releases this limited 7” vinyl that is sure to firmly set PABH as one of the brightest hopes for the UK music scene in 2009.
Meat Balloon is released on October 27th by Big Scary Monsters on a limited run of 7” singles with a free CD and comic.

Nirvana, mainly because they were over and done with before I was musically conscious so Dave Grohl couldn't ruin them for me by how intrinsically annoying he is. [view article]

We are including all his musical directions in the debate, which is why we're discussing whether he was better in Foo Fighters or Probot also. Facts are he is a better drummer than he is a guitarist or vocalist, and as we're debating which band he was best in rather than which band he made the best, he thus performed better in Nirvana and QOTSA. To repeat what some of the others have said, he's been good in Foos and had a lot of fame, but hasn't been nearly as influential or impressive as in the bands beforehand. [view article]

Sure, but since Grohl has played his hand at many different musical directions its important to include all of them in this debate in order to find out when he was at his best. Otherwise It'd be a debate about when he was the best drummer... For the record, I do think he's a really good drummer. But doesn't it take a little something away from QOTSA as a band and Grohl himself, if were just going to consider his one off involvement with the group as his crowning moment? I've always been a fan of that band, way before Grohl ever did SFTD with them and though he was a great addition, it's not like the album was carried on his drumming alone. QOTSA are an awesome band regardless of whether Grohl played with them or not. [view article]
