Pixies fire bassist Kim Shattuck

Pixies fire bassist Kim Shattuck

by Oliver Primus (Google+), 02 December 2013

"Super disappointed to learn that my time with the Pixies ended today. Amazing experience. Looking forward to focusing my attention back on the Muffs and our upcoming new album. All the best to everyone."

That was the surprise message posted on Twitter by Kim Shattuck regarding her rather short lived position as bassist in Pixies.

Shattuck took the position following the departure of Kim Deal earlier in the year, but obviously things didn't work out. Are there any other bass players out there called Kim? I'm sure we'll find out soon enough, as the band have a pretty huge tour of North America planned for next year.

While everyone else is at Glastonbury, it seems like Pixies felt a little bit sorry for those of us left at home. So while everyone is enjoying muddy fields and also some Bobby Womack based fun, we have Pixies smashing back onto the scene with their first release since ‘Bam Thwok’ in 2004. [read more]

Primavera Sound 2010 // Day Two

Welcome to part two of our mammoth Primavera Sound 2010 review. Yesterday 405 writer Laura Lotti took us into her world and spoke about day one, which included lots of alcohol and bands such as Pavement. Day two is much the same, minus Stephen Malkmus. Alright, today I feel in a proper festival soldier mood. After having shamelessly missed The Fall last night, no more mistakes. Strategy. And everyone for themselves: first rule of the festival goer’s handbook. The tube ... (continued) [read more]
