Plastic Platform C35: D/R/U/G/S
Callum Wright of D/R/U/G/S fame has featured frequently on the pages of The 405 - even 2012's self-described 'quiet' year for the man from Manchester saw an EP and single release.
2013 is set to be a more productive affair it seems with a new single set for release in early March and a debut album that will see the light of day later in the year. Callum has created a superb mix for us here that starts off as the sound of a melodic slowjam to your sweat-encrusted nightmares, only for you to wake-up and ingest a few too many discoloured pills from that shadowy figure figure who may or may not be a figment of you imagination.
Listen to it and download below (thank us later, seriously), take the mix around with you and make your next journey out in public a beautiful, nasty and engrossing one; and read the candid intro below from the man himself.
New single 'Elevate' is out on March 25th 2013 on Bad Life.
With this mix I didn't just want to put together the standard DJ fare as that's not really what I'm about so I thought it would be fun to piece together a kind of sonic road map of what I've been trying to do production wise over the past year. I released the bare minimum of material in 2012 as it really felt like I was losing control and direction of the whole creative process and that the whole thing was diverting too far away from what I originally intended it to be.
I've been putting together my first album over the past few months and this mix is a reflection of the varied sounds and styles that make up my sound at this moment in time. Beats wise I've always used house and techno to flavour my tracks rather than utilise those outright structures, Aphex, Gas and Boards of Canada being prime influences in that respect. Some of my own edits and short snippets of album tracks make up the numbers.
- M83 - Slight Night Shiver
- Clams Casino - Swervin
- Boards Of Canada - Music Is Math
- Aphex Twin - Rhubarb (D/R/U/G/S 4/4 Edit)
- Gas - Tal 90
- Max Cooper - Pleasures (D/R/U/G/S Remix)
- Ben Klock - Coney Island
- D/R/U/G/S - Glore
- Fairmont - Cannon
- Burial - In Mcdonalds (D/R/U/G/S 4/4 Edit)
- OPN - Blue Drive

This is a mix of some of my favorite new music, and some older tracks that inspired me to create Luminary Youth. Phaseone and Afta-1 are some of my favorite producers that really moved me back in 2009, and artists like Clams Casino, Shlohmo, Tokimonsta, and Mux Mool are also some older favorites that have seen success lately and are steadily growing their fan-bases today. This selection of music covers a range of flavours, from smart late-afternoon house-tinged preludes heralding fun-filled evenings to horizontally inclined offbeats soaked with liquid percussion and a glorious sense of doing nothing. Stick this mix on and do nothing yourself. Or file it under "First BBQ of the Year" and keep it for such an occasion. Enjoy. [read more]
Mark McGuire is a thoughtful guy who spends a good deal of his time searching for amazing music within himself and the entirety of collective human intelligence, so we asked him to share just a sliver of that knowledge with us for our Plastic Platform series. [read more]
