Plastic Platform C36: Parisian

Plastic Platform C36: Parisian

by The 405 (Google+), 20 February 2013

Ian Jones flies under the handle of Parisian, resides in St Louis, is influenced in part by a lot of UK-bass-related music; and this global melange in a microcosm sums up the multifarious sounds as created by the burgeoning producer.

2013 has seen much attention thrown the way of Parisian (ourselves featuring two of his tracks) thanks to the wildly beguiling Daul Kim EP that's kinda hilariously ahead of that poor languishing curve, taunting the bendy entity with its rich engrossing textures and genre flirtations. The EP is named after the South Korean model of the same name who infamously committed suicide in 2009 - Jones at the time used to visit her blog until her death, and revisited it prior to making this EP that resulted in her morbid story ultimately having an influence on his work.

All a bit dark perhaps? This 'darkness' is somewhat evident in the tracks, though all being told it's the earnest, thoughtful quality that permeates more strongly throughout, offsetting the supposed nefarious nature - all wrapped up in slick, satisfying beats to erratically move yer head too. Like popping into a witch-house for a cup of tea spiked with some kind of introspective upper. There have been a few mentions as to how his sound is that of Triangle Records - this stunning, eclectic mix here at times is more R&S Records than anything else, Klaus into Ramadanm, Kahn making an appearance and so on.

This is of course to do a massive disservice to Push & Run that is his current label - a label set to go places and take over your headspace this coming year and beyond. Daul Kim is out now on this very label - go and buy now, but not before downloading this onto some kind of electronic device where it can invade your brain. Get it also via Push & Run's Soundcloud.
