Best Coast - 'Fear Of My Own Identity' [Listen]
In honour of this year's Record Store Day celebrated on Saturday, all American surf rock band Best Coast released a 7", 'Fear of my Own Identity'. This record has been described as epitomising 'stoner existential paranoia' which pretty much sums it up with lyrics such as "I hope it's you but I know it's me" fading us out into their B side 'Who have I Cecome'. 'Fear of my own Identity', despite the edgy, drug fuelled undertones, manages to be upbeat and poppy at the same time. The hazy tones and catchy melody make it equal parts beach pop and stoner rock.
Best Coast will be coming to the UK for the first time in May playing a string of dates up and down the country, including the Camden Crawl and the Great Escape in Brighton. With a string of 7â releases under their belt, the band are aiming to release their debut album later this year. Havaianas have teamed up with Best Coast. Horrah! We're not 100% sure how a rubber sandal company and an indie-rock band meet, but it does mean we get treated to this rather lovely Lindstrøm remix of 'Boyfriend'. Excellent. [read more]
