The common theme stringing these songs together is that they're honest. Not "authentic" or "truthful," both of which are subjective and kind of arbitrary terms, informed by preference and taste and context and personal experience. Honest means something else, something felt, something pure in expression and execution. These songs span genres and generations, but they are all bereft of bullshit. They're all honest, and real recognizes real. Enjoy.
