Listen to Radiohead and The Velvet Underground on wooden vinyl!
Filing under the good uses of 3D printing technology, Amanda Ghassael has created another great world's first: vinyl records made of wood.
Ghassael explains the extremely technical creation process on Instructables, which involves uses a 3D printer and a laser cutter to cut wider than usual grooves. For her first trials Ghassael chose two tracks from the Velvet Underground, 'Sunday Morning' and 'Femme Fatale', and the Radiohead track, 'Idioteque'. The resulting sounds are grainy and muffled, but very cool.
Ghassael has also made the vector files available as a free download, allowing home pioneers to create their own wooden records. [via Fact]
