She & Him - 'I Could've Been Your Girl' [Listen]
Ahead of their forthcoming album, She & Him have allowed the retro-pop day dream that is 'I Could Have Been Your Girl' to leap and sway its way into our eardrums.
"If I could do it over, I'd send you the pillow that I cry on" wails Zooey, sounding somewhat like she knows it's a cliché but equally like she means it. Strings sigh and embrace the wistful vocals and of course it all sounds very sad, but at the same time upbeat – how are we supposed to feel, guys!?
Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward seem to be the perfect match again here, coupling saccharine vocals with upbeat 60s production to decorate unrequited love and heart ache in joy and a coy playfulness.
Volume 3 is out May 13th, 2013 on Domino Records.
