Mia Rita's 'Literary Self-Portraits' series marks Mia's return to self-portraiture after a year-long hiatus, as she explained to me over email. Mia further explained that, "self-portraiture was my first step towards photography as art and it has always meant a lot to me... it is very much an exercise in trust and scrutiny, but self-portrait is also how I find time for myself and make sure that I create, no matter how busy I am with "real adult life". It has become very much a ritual in self-care and it has developed and grown a lot with time, as I myself develop and grow too."

She further explained that the project was "made of several different little series and each "set" is inspired by a book I have read - the sets are also named after quotes from those books that I particularly love or find interesting how they work out of the context of the book. This is a very personal project, like most self-portraits are."
