Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of Hamilton, and Senator Chuck Schumer have teamed up to promote the BOTS Act (Better On-line Ticket Sales Act of 2016. The bill proposed a new federal law that would fine all resellers of tickets who use bots to go around online security protocol and eat up thousands of tickets to shows or events in milliseconds.

The law would ensure that Bot users would be fined $16,000 per ticket purchased. As of now, California currently only delivers $2,500 in total fines (and possible six months imprisonment) for using a bot, while New York state law carries a $1,000 total fine and up to a year in prison.
