"Level Up: Overcoming Harassment in Games," a panel that was due to take place at SXSW Interactive in March next year has been cancelled... because of harrassment. An official statement from the event organisers states that due to threats of on-site violence both this, and a pro-GamerGate panel entitled "SavePoint: A Discussion on the Gaming Community," (planned via Reddit) have been annulled; "Maintaining civil and respectful dialogue within the big tent is more important than any particular session," it reads.

An email sent out to panelists revealed more information:

It is only discussion that will bring people closer to mutual understanding. Cancelling events for fear of violence – threats of which, incidentally, female gamers, journalists and women in general receive daily online – stinks of censorship, and stinks even worse of an inability to see further than the big fucking tent at SXSW. There is life outside of Austin.
