Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Williejane Dent is a photographer whose work carries an edgy yet nostalgic undertone, which probably derives from her love of all things analog. We caught up with her in order to learn more about her creative process and current pieces.

How would you describe yourself in 5 words?

Funny, Romantic, Caring, Weird, and Charismatic.

What's the most challenging piece you've ever created?

Probably my current piece. I've been working on it for 8 months for my thesis at school. I took portraits of all the men I have had romantic relationships with and printed them using the ferrotype process.

If you were in a band, what kind of music would you play?

A funky hip-hop girl band!

When was the last time you tried something new?

I tried duck for the first time last night... I don't know how I feel about it.

What's the most provocative piece you've ever created?

I think most of my pieces are quite provocative, but I'd say my shoot titled "Jaguar". It consists of a portrait of my best friends beautiful ass wearing fishnets, and a man's hands pulling against them and biting on them.

If a movie was made about your life, what actor/actress would play you and what would the film be called?

Kristen Wiig, Dooneese x2.

What are the top two compliments you hear from people about yourself?

That I'm very kind and my booty is getting bigger.

What inspires you?

Beautiful and powerful women.

What is your most valuable skill?

My ability empower and connect with women through my artistic vision.

What's the best piece you've ever created?

My piece titled "Pump Your Veins With Gushing Gold". It's a gridded image of my mouth and tongue with gold leaf and paint maker marks. It has turned into my brand image and was the first original piece I have ever sold!

Any advice for new artists?

Always keep creating, and don't be afraid of failure. Push your boundaries. When you think you might fuck up, it may turn out to be your favourite piece!

What is a moment that completely transformed you?

Tripping on mushrooms on the beaches of Bali while the sun was setting.

What do you consider to be the highlight of your life?

The family and friends I am surrounded by every day.

What makes you smile?

British short hair kittens and fart jokes.

Lastly, what are you currently working on?

I am currently working on my thesis piece. It is a story of personal growth through past relationships.
