As part of our Placeholder series, we're asking some of our favourite artists an incredibly simple question: 'what are you reading?'. A pretty great way to find out what you should be spending your money on if you ask us.

A Field Guide to Getting Lost by Rebecca Solnit (2006)

"I recently read A Field Guide to Getting Lost by Rebecca Solnit. It walks through some of Solnit's personal experience as well as the lives of various historical people with the idea that sometimes when you get lost it's actually right where you need to be. Like the saying life begins at the end out your comfort zone. I've always loved the feeling of being in an unfamiliar town on tour and just walking down a random street with no idea where it leads. If it were an analogy on life it leads you to the unexpected. It keeps things interesting, and there are no wrong turns if we choose to grow from even our negative experiences. I really like the way she weaves the lives of others into her own personal journey of self-discovery. It's a really lovely book. Two thumbs up!"

Heartless Bastards' new album, Restless Ones, was released back in June via Partisan Records. They play London's Borderline on September 1st, Bristol's Lantern on the 2nd, and Manchester's Ritz on the 6th.
