Cary Joji Fukunaga will officially be the first American director of a James Bond flick in the franchise's 55 year history with Eon Productions – 1983's Never Say Never Again (Connery as Bond) was directed by Irvin Kershner (born in Philadelphia) but was actually not produced by Eon. Daniel Craig will be reprising his role as Bond, reportedly for the last time.

Eon also announced production on the 25th Bond outing – Bond 25 (working title) will begin in March with a release date of February 14, 2020, two months further out than initially forecast.

Fukunaga stepped into the role after Danny Boyle (127 Hours) left over "creative differences". Fukunaga is most well known for directing the entire first season of HBO's True Detective.
