Director George A. Romero, known mainly for his Night Of The Living Dead franchise, has died at age 77. The sad news wasn't completely unexpected (at least to his loved ones) since the American-Canadian director had been fighting a "brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer" to which he succumbed to over the weekend.

Romero was responsible for introducing the Zombie genre to the masses, directing his first cult movie Night of the Living Dead in 1968 (a film he also wrote, edited, and starred in), with sequels like Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead (his personal favourite) following up in subsequent years.
