Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, Kyle Killen (Awake), Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and Showtime are working on a hour-long, live-action TV show based on the massively popular Xbox game franchise "Halo" (the project's working title).

Wyatt will direct multiple episodes and executive produce while Killen serves as writer, executive producer and show runner. The idea was originally conceived in 2013 with X-Box's foray into TV entertainment, but went to Showtime a year later when Microsoft pulled the plug on Xbox Entertainment Studios.

The show takes place during the 26th Century conflict between humanity and a malevolent galactic presence called the Covenant. Showtime's president David Nevins tells Deadline, "Halo is our most ambitious series ever, and we expect audiences who have been anticipating it for years to be thoroughly rewarded."
