Julie Dash has been very busy in TV, the multimedia world, and in short films via her own platform. 1991's Daughters of the Dust was her last theatrically-distributed feature.

Until now. Shadow and Act is reporting that Dash signed on to direct a biopic of civil rights activist and Black Panther Angela Davis – with Davis personally supervising the production.

Lionsgate will be the studio backing it with Brian Tucker (of the American remake of Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and 2013's Broken City) penning the script.

Not much else is known about the production right now. Stay tuned for more as we hear it.
