Matt Damon recently made some comments in a Guardian interview that upset quite a few people.

The offending words?

"I think you’re a better actor the less people know about you period. And sexuality is a huge part of that. Whether you’re straight or gay, people shouldn’t know anything about your sexuality because that’s one of the mysteries that you should be able to play."

Now whilst this might well be coming from a wholly non-homophobic place, it has been highlighted as ignorant. As posted on Vulture, they point out how easy it is for a heterosexual actor to be mysterious before explaining that "For a gay actor, it would mean never kissing anyone in public, never going on a date, never letting your family leave your house. The standards are not the same."

It is very easy, on the other hand, to see that a blog has written the headline "Matt Damon says gay actors should stay in the closet" and continue the theme regardless of the original source material.

Responding to this criticism, Damon has responded and clarified his comments whilst appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show – watch below.
