You get snubbed for a few awards, but you're generally feeling good about yourself because you've grabbed some of the biggies (best actress, director, score, song, cinematography, etc). Then Warren Beatty takes the stage. He stumbles around for a bit, then announces you've picked up the coveted Best Picture award. You compose yourself. You walk up on the stage, trying not cry, trying not to act like Tom Cruise did on the Oprah show all those years back. You get handed the little gold statue, look down at the announcement card as a formality, and bam: you lost. You lost to Moonlight.

The thing is, it's harsh for both films. La La Land for obvious reasons, but mostly for Moonlight It deserves better than to be remembered by an unfortunate gaffe (hell, read this article if you're looking for a solid argument on the matter).

But still, at least it was an interesting night for our writer Max, who liveblogged the entire thing.
