Last King of Scotland director Kevin Macdonald and Searching for Sugar Man producer Simon Chinn are teaming up to put out a new Whitney Houston documentary. Macdonald calls his approach to the late great singer's life "unvarnished and authentic," as he plans to "examine both the highs and lows of her dramatic career."

It's also said to include exclusive demo recordings, never-before-seen performances and rare audio. From her beginnings as a gospel singer to the day of her death, and the three decades of music in between, the Altitude Films-distributed doc has officially been authorized by Houston’s estate since her death. (Although Nick Broomfield is also said to be working on his own.)

A release date has yet to be announced.
