It's been several years now since we first heard about the rumoured Nina Simone biopic, and with delays ranging from Mary J.Blige being replaced by Zoe Saldana (with subsequent criticism regarding Saldana's Dominican and Puerto Rican origins), and director Cynthia Mort accusing the production company of hijacking the project, we thought it would be relegated to a dark, dark room for the rest of time.

But now it looks it's finally happening: Nina's rights were acquired by RLJ Entertainment, who are set to release it later in the year -- December, to be more exact. The biopic follows the recently released Netflix documentary What Happened, Miss Simone?, which was heavily praised by both media and public.
