Author Gillian Flynn is known from crafting taut, intense, psychological thrillers that tear the lid off of seemingly tranquil Midwestern life in the Missouri bootheel to expose a seedy underbelly of domestic decay, criminality, and all manner of violence.

Flynn is most well-known for writing the Gone Girl screenplay and novel (for which Rosamund Pike got an Oscar nomination for her take on the savage femme fatale Amy Dunne) and the novel behind 2015 Dark Places with Charlize Theron. This newest adaptation of her work, Sharp Objects (which also carries Flynn as a writer for all 8 episodes), stars Amy Adams as a reporter who confronts her profound psychological demons when she returns to her small town in the Missouri bootheel to investigate a murder.

Marti Noxon is the showrunner for Sharp Objects. Ms. Noxon has previously worked on Mad Men, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Glee among many other credits. Patricia Clarkson, Elizabeth Perkins, Madison Davenport, Chris Messina and Eliza Scanlen round out the cast. Jean-Marc Vallée (Dallas Buyers Club) directs all 8 episodes: a trick that tends to give a series more cohesion, not unlike Cary Joji Fukunaga with True Detective: Season 1.

We are very excited about this one because Gillian Flynn's work in literary form and on screen does not disappoint fans of a well-crafted thriller.

The series comes as Flynn's overall deal with Amazon was also announced. Catch Sharp Objects this July and enjoy the teaser trailer below.
