The new western featuring Christian Bale, Hostiles (2017), made quite the echo at the Telluride Film Festival this past weekend. Hostiles is being called the best film from director Scott Cooper (Out of the Furnace, Black Mass), and is already being called an award's contender.

The film does not have a distributor and is getting rave reviews, sparking speculations of a behind-the-scenes bidding war by interested studios. The film stars Bale as an Army Captain who helps a dying Cheyenne war chief (Wes Studi) and family back to their ancestral lands in 1892. They are unexpectedly joined by a suicidal widow (Rosamund Pike of 2014's Gone Girl), who lost her family to Comanche warriors.

The film itself appears to be a rather bloody western, and quite the effort from the filmmakers. Watch Hostiles first trailer below, and stay tuned to The 405 for more on this film.
