Actor turned writer and director Brady Corbet (most known as an actor for his role as Derek Huxley in the fifth season of 24) may be making waves in awards' season as a darkhorse with his newest effort Vox Lux (roughly translated as "The Voice Light") starring Natalie Portman and Jude Law.

Vox Lux stars Portman as international singing sensation Celeste – yet she doesn't appear until the film's latter half. That's because the film focuses on how she was fundamentally formed by a very timely type of tragedy: a school shooting. The younger Celeste is played by The Killing of a Sacred Deer's Raffey Cassidy. A few reviewers have described the film as a "heavy" Faustian bargain, very capably acted by Portman.

Catch Vox Lux in theaters December 7. Enjoy the trailer below.
