Karyn Kusama has a rather varied resume as a director. In terms of movies, she has done 2000's Girl Fight, 2005's Æon Flux, and 2009's Jennifer's Body. With TV, she has done episodes of The L Word, Chicago Fire, Masters of Sex, Billions, and Halt and Catch Fire, among others.

Now she is venturing into solidly film noir territory with the up-coming crime thriller Destroyer, and giving Nicole Kidman one hell of a makeover as LAPD detective Erin Bell.

After a gang leader from a previous case reappears, Detective Bell is plunged into some very dark memories of her past cases, told through two timelines. The first is a much younger Detective Bell and the second is her present.

Destroyer also stars Sebastian Stan, Toby Kebbell, Tatiana Maslany, and Bradley Whitford. It was written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (both writers on Kusama's 2015 feature The Invitation). It opens in select theaters Christmas Day.
