In what appears to be at least a partial return to Season 1 form, Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, Free State of Jones) plays Arkansas Detective Wayne Hays in Season 3 of Nic Pizzolatto's True Detective on HBO. The official logline is,"The next installment of True Detective tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods".

This should not be confused with the Missouri Ozarks – the Ozark Region actually covers territory in Kansas and Oklahoma too, in addition to Arkansas and Missouri. Primarily the Lake of the Ozarks – which is much further North then the Missouri Ozark mountains which are shared with Arkansas to the south – Jason Bateman's Ozark on Netflix takes place at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Going by that logline, and the trailer below, we are in for a story that is at least trying to get back to its dark, film noir roots in the critically acclaimed First Season. This, of course, stands in opposition to the relatively rambling, incoherent Second Season that did not go over very well. Luckily, HBO had acknowledged their error on Season 2 and pledged to do better on Season 3.

Carmen Ejogo (Selma), Mamie Gummer (Side Effects), and Scoot McNairy (Argo) also star with Jeremy Saulnier (the director of the much lauded horror flick about neo-nazis called Green Room), Pizzolatto and Daniel Sackheim (who directed a few episodes of Ozark) directing. Catch Season 3 in January 2019 on HBO. Enjoy the trailer below.
