"When Ellen, matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter's family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited."

Written and directed by Ari Aster (The Strange Thing About the Johnsons), Hereditary appears to be a modern take on the gothic tropes of the haunted house – and more viscerally, existentially haunted family trees – likely taking a cue at some level from Poe, particularly The Fall of the House of Usher. The film also stars Gabriel Byrne, Ann Dowd, Toni Collette, Milly Shapiro, and Alex Wolff.
