Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures have slated Sherlock Holmes 3 for a December 25, 2020 release date, the studios announced May 7.

While Guy Ritchie directed the first two films in the latest cinematic iteration on the iconic detective first penned by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, no director is yet attached for this film. Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Holmes with Jude Law also returning as Dr. John Watson. Chris Brancato (Narcos, Hannibal) wrote this third installment.

This comes exactly nine years after the first Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows which starred Jared Harris as Holmes’s most infamous foe, Professor James Moriarty"The Napoléon of Crime." Game of Shadows earned $545 million at the box office.
