The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences reversed course on Friday and restored all awards to live TV after initially making Best Live Action Short, Best Editing, Best Cinematography and Best Makeup and Hair Styling, get their awards during commercial breaks this year.

What resulted was a massive outcry from many in the movie industry and an open letter from many luminaries in film that delineated a plethora of reasons against the move.

"The Academy has heard the feedback from its membership regarding the Oscar presentation of four awards – Cinematography, Film Editing, Live Action Short, and Makeup and Hairstyling," the Academy’s board of governors said. "All Academy Awards will be presented without edits, in our traditional format. We look forward to Oscar Sunday, February 24."
