The BFI London Film Festival held a special presentation screening of The Hate U Give at Cineworld, Leicester Square. Director George Tillman Jr., lead actress Amandla Stenberg and author Angie Thomas (who wrote the best-selling book which inspired the film) introduced the film to a packed audience.

Unfortunately, The Hate U Give screenwriter Audrey Wells passed away October 4 from cancer. She was only 58.

Starr Carter (Stenberg) is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil (Algee Smith) at the hands of a police officer. Now, facing pressures from all sides of the community, Starr must find her voice and stand up for what’s right.

Russell Hornsby, Regina Hall, Common, Anthony Mackie and Issa Rae also star. Catch The Hate U Give in US cinemas now and in UK cinemas October 22, enjoy the trailer and pictures from the screening below.
