By an unofficial count, there have been 24 film adaptations of Charlies Dickens' well-regarded holiday classic A Christmas Carol to film since the early 1900s. Keep in mind that does not include the dozens of theater and television adaptations of the very well-tread story, which has been told, re-told, and parodied more times than anyone seems totally sure of.

Now, according to Deadline, rapper/actor Ice Cube has been tabbed as the newest addition to the lengthy list of people to portray the story's central character Ebenezer Scrooge in the next film adaptation Humbug. The film will be produced by Universal, pairing Ice Cube up with director Tim Story, who previously worked together in last year's financial hit Ride Along. The updated version of the story will cast Ice Cube as a "a wealthy real estate mogul," according to the report, who is then "shown a path to redemption by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future."

No word yet on the official release date or when the project is set to go into production. However, the sequel to Ride Along - directed again by Story - is set to premiere in January.
