While she has been somewhat out of the limelight for a while, actress Meg Ryan has been very busy as of late. Not quite as an actress, however, Ryan is set to reveal her directorial debut later this summer with the coming-of-age story Ithaca.

Based off the 1943 book The Human Comedy, Ithaca follows the story of 14-year-old Homer Macauley (Alex Neustaedter), who becomes a bike messenger in a small California town during World War II. With his brother off to fight, Homer is at home with his widowed mother and two other siblings, working to send war-time letters from soldiers to the people around town.

Although he's only briefly in the film, the biggest buzz so far comes from the casting of Tom Hanks, who famously co-starred with Meg Ryan in two of the 90's biggest romantic comedies, Sleepless In Seattle and You've Got Mail. On set, ever the pleasant figure, Hanks joked with the cast according to Entertainment Weekly when his portion wrapped up, saying, "All right, gather 'round. Listen, I know we've gotten to know each other very well over the last 10 hours together, but I just want to thank you for being here for my friend Meg."

The film also stars Sam Shepard, Molly Gordon, Hamish Linklater, and Jack Quaid, Ryan's son.
