The first trailer for Nina, a biopic largely centered around Nina Simone's relationship with her former nurse-turned-manager Clifton Henderson, is finally here and already there's a mountain of controversy surrounding it. Zoe Saldana is playing Simone in the Cynthia Mort-directed visuals, but it appears that Saldana darkened her skin for the role and used a prosthetic nose, making people question why she was cast in the first place.

Mary J Blige was originally set to play Nina, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Nina Simone's daughter, Lisa Simone Kelly (who served as an executive producer on last year's Netflix documentary What Happened, Miss Simone?), reportedly also had problems with the casting choice.

Nina is set to open in theaters on April 22.
