Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Absolutely one of my favorite films and it was the inspiration for the song 'Paused Parade'. When I heard the piano part Matt Hales, aka Aqualung, started to play when we were writing together it instantly reminded me of the scene in Eternal Sunshine where they are watching the parade and elephants go by and Clementine (Kate Winslet) begs for Joel (Jim Carrey) not to erase her, and the Alexander Pope poem is recited. It's a beautifully sad moment. I could write a book about the different aspects of that scene and that movie that were inspiration to my song.

Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton

I love a good a documentary as they provide so much motivation and inspiration for me. Often when working on a new record or new music in general I need different artistic mediums other than listening to music to gain inspiration, for fear that I'll be too influenced by what I'm listening to so documentaries are a wonderful way to engage a different part of my creative brain.

The Marc Jacobs documentary shows the notoriously private designer's process as well as his travels. It is a very intimate look at how his creativity is parlayed into different aspects of his collection.

Spirited Away

This Japanese film provides such an elaborate and different source for inspiration. It is a breath of fresh air from the American films we so often see replicated in different formats over and over. I'm a big fan of the director Hayao Miyazaki, whose studio, Studio Ghibli, happens to be the subject of a great documentary The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness, that people should also check out. Spirited Away is a beautifully thoughtful film and the story is so enchanting. I highly recommend it!

Shaun of the Dead

I am a comedy snob. I grew up with music and comedy being very important in my family. We watched SNL every Sunday morning when I was little and listened to comedy albums when we'd be on our journeys moving from place to place. I love Shaun of the Dead because it is such an iconic and now classic comedic/horror film. It takes the piss out of the classic zombie movie. It's so creative and so hilarious; definitely a favorite of mine.

Searching for Sugar Man

This documentary is one of my favorites - it's such an insane story! I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it but it's really a magical true story of people who were so touched by the music of Rodriguez they had to figure out if rumors about his whereabouts were true. It is a must watch for sure!
