Girls actress Zosia Mamet has a new role, as the quick witted, fast-speaking star has been cast as punk rock icon Patti Smith in a forthcoming biopic about Robert Mapplethorpe. Doctor Who's Matt Smith has already nabbed the lead about the famous artist and photographer who became Smith's confidant when she moved to New York City at the turn of the 1970s.

Titled Mapplethorpe, the film is set to start production this summer and comes from writer and director Ondi Timoner, who previously won at Sundance for the cult rock documentary DIG.

Smith’s best-selling 2013 memoir Just Kids is also set to be turned into a television mini-series in the near future, while Patti is currently working on her third memoir, a detective mystery and a children's book.
