Oh dear! It seems Ron Gilbert, the creator of the classic Secret of Monkey Island series, and Tim Schafer are parting ways. After the release of Gilbert’s latest game, The Cave, Gilbert has announced his official departure from Double Fine studios.

Eurogamer managed to speak to Gilbert last December, where he expressed his desire in talking to Disney as they own the rights to the Monkey island franchise. Ironically, Gilbert mentioned he would make a Monkey Island sequel at Double Fine unless Schafer fired him.

Although Gilbert hasn’t announced any plans, he did quip in his blog, “So many games left to be designed”.

Tim Schafer is currently working on his Kickstarter project Double Fine Adventure. However he was happy enough to send his support via twitter for Ron’s decision to leave the company.
