Mirrors Edge fans were given a bit of a boost this week, as EA all but 100% confirmed that they're currently working on a sequel to 2008's critically acclaimed, if not financially lucrative, first person, free running action game.

Speculation about the sequel went into overdrive after Official Xbox Magazine asked VP of EA Games, Patrick Soderlund, whether it's hard to justify risky new IPs like Mirrors Edge when existing franchises are performing so well. His reply?

""Well it depends, right? Maybe it is and maybe it isn't. It's also important for us - the DICE guys are roughly 300 people in the Stockholm studio; not all of them are working on Battlefield things, and that's intentional, because we don't want to become a Battlefield factory."

Hot on the heels of OXM's piece came a tweet from Swedish Developer and former EA employee Ben Cousins, stating "It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror's Edge 2 is in production at DICE"

So, that pretty much confirms that then. It will be interesting seeing how DICE plan to improve upon the original game. A lot of players couldn't get to grips with the first person aspect of free running, while others (myself included) enjoyed the games unique take on what has become an action game staple, but were disappointed by a lot of the level design. Once you've spent time leaping between rooftops, and swinging around the skyline, indoor environments can feel a little restrictive. What do you all think about the prospect of Mirrors Edge 2, and what would you like to see in the sequel?
