Technical proficiency is one thing, and it's one thing which South London's Aadae has down pat, but it takes an ocean of talent to sound this vulnerable and brave, to communicate the contradictions and contusions of deep, deep emotionality. 'Carousel Horses' sounds colourful, vivid, but servicing a greater ideal. It's sprinkled in graceful percussion and furtive backing singers accentuating Aadae's central vortex of a voice. To her music there's traces of Afrobeat jazz, R&B, three generations of soul; but Aadae's voice is a singular remove.
