This feature is taken from our Autumn schedule.

They say don't work with children or animals, but this 'they' are not aware of the 405's obsession for all things cat-related.

For our brand new photo feature series, we're setting up photoshoots with musicians and their feline companions. The inaugural edition found 405 Photography Editor Tim Boddy tracking down Labyrinth Ear's many cats ('tracking' being the appropriate word), but for our follow-up feature, we had it a bit easier.

Mathew Parri Thomas spent an evening with Jack Cooper (Mazes, Ultimate Painting) and his incredibly photogenic cat (read: total flirt), Tobi. This is what happened:

Firstly, what's your cat's name and what made you pick it (the name and the cat)?

My girlfriend named her Tobi after Tobi Vaill from Bikini Kill. She has a whole host of nicknames... my 4-year-old niece thought she was called Turbo and that stuck as well. But yeah... Tobi.

When did you get the cat and how would you describe your relationship?

We got her a few months after moving into together from a shelter out near Epping Forest. Her and her sister were abandoned in a car park and we adopted her when she was 6 months old. We got her home and thought she might take a little while getting her bearings, but she turned out to be super confident and outgoing. She goes outside nowadays, getting into scrapes and eating things she shouldn't.

We have a cool time... I'm at home a lot so we hang out all day. She's an interesting character... lots of funny little hang-ups and habits. I find her endlessly fascinating and perfect company. I'm a distant second in her affections though, she's very much my girlfriend Tsouni's baby.

What's your cat's favourite toy?

It changes... whatever's new and loaded with catnip. She always loves a good ball of tinfoil though. I think pound for pound, that's her favourite.

Do you think your cat likes your music?

Well she sits on my knee when I record at home... I'm sure she gets something from new stimulus but nah... She gives a shit about very little.

Has your cat shown any musical talent?

She's vocal and she likes to sleep in my guitar case but I'm afraid not.

If your cat was a famous jazz musician, who would she be?

She has some issues and some chemical dependencies... so maybe Billie Holliday? Because she had to hustle for food as a kitten, she literally can't get enough food. She'll eat anything and everything. We once found her slumped in the kitchen after chewing the lid of some cooking oil and licking a load of it up. Another time, we had a band staying with us and over the course of a week, she got so freaked out and anxious that the vet had to give her cat-morphine. She was the funniest little strung out nerd.

Does your cat have any special skills?

She can sustain a pretty relentless door rapping when she's locked out of a room. Really good at waking me up too.

How many mice has the cat "presented" you with?

None... she doesn't mess with them, but she brought in a couple of live pigeons. Incredibly stressful thing having a bleeding pigeon flapping around your flat.

What is your favourite celebrity cat (real or fictional)?

Snowball II.

Lastly, what do you have coming up (non-cat related) that we should know about?

Touring the US over the next month with Ultimate Painting. Really psyched on this album, so I'm looking forward to getting out and playing it to people.
