Big Thief have released two albums in consecutive years prior to this, so they've been pretty much non-stop on tour that whole time; this hasn't stopped lead singer Adrianne Lenker from writing a whole new album's worth of material in that time though. She has today announced that her new solo album is called abysskiss and will be released on October 5th through Saddle Creek.

"I want to archive the songs in their original forms every few years," explains Lenker. "My first solo record I made was Hours Were the Birds. I had just turned 21 and moved to New York City where I was sleeping in a warehouse, working in a restaurant and photographing pigeons. Now five years later, another skin is being shed."

The first flake of this recently-shed skin that we get to hear is 'cradle', a song of understated majesty in its arpeggiating guitars, cotton-like backing coos and minimal piano lines. Of course, Lenker's voice and words are the star of the piece, as she sings intimately, as though alone in her bunk, and manages to encapsulate images both tertiary and heavenly in one transcendent and prodigious sweep. The lyrics can't be done justice in writing, but in Lenker's vital voice they become animated and dance gorgeously with the simplistic twirl of her guitar. Listen below.
