Jefre Cantu-Ledesma has announced that he'll be releasing a new album called Tracing Back The Radiance on July 12th through Mexican Summer. It follows up 2017's excellent On The Echoing Green, but judging from first single 'Joy', this is going to be quite a different beast.

For Tracing Back The Radiance, Cantu-Ledesma enlisted the help of several experienced musicians, including John Also Bennett, Marilu Donavan, Chuck Johnson, Gregg Kowalsky, Mary Lattimore, David Moore, Meara O'Reilly, Jonathan Sielaff, Roger Tellier Craig, and Christopher Tignor, to create a wholly different sensory experience.

We get the first taste of this on 'Joy', which employs a subtle concoction of instrumentation into a gorgeously velveteen sound. Whereas Echoing Green was largely guitar-centric and almost shoegazey, 'Joy' indicates that Cantu-Ledesma is taking us down a much more languorous and gentle path on his next outing. Amidst the beauty of 'Joy' are fluctuations of vibraphone, backing a central figure of what sounds like a flute writing invisible calligraphy on thin air. It's stunning.

Jefre Cantu-Ledesma's new album Tracing Back The Radiance comes out through Mexican Summer on July 12th (pre-order).
