After three weeks of waiting, Apple has finally announced the acquisition of Beats. They'll be buying the Dr. Dre- and Jimmy Iovine-helmed company for a cool $3 billion, $200 million lower than the figure originally reported. The Cupertino company gets a great deal with the purchase: not only do they gain the uber-popular Beats Electronics audio line, they also get fledgling streaming service Beats Music. Billboard notes that the streaming service was mentioned first in Apple's press release, which may indicate the real priority in this two-for-one (or three-for-one) deal.

Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine will be joining the company in as-yet-unspecified roles, and the deal will likely close before the end of the year.
