Pop music and religious texts are not normally common bedfellows, but for Sam Travis this is exactly what interests him. London based artist Sam creates paintings of text that could be spiritual texts from a new age order.

"I like the idea of strange new gods appearing in pop songs," says Sam. "I showed my christian grandfather these paintings and he began waxing lyrical about the scriptures and reciting back to me in amazement the Shabazz Palaces lyrics about waking up to 'heavy trueness' that I had stolen for the painting."

It is not only the content that mixes the classic with the contemporary, the process in which Sam paints is a pursuit to achieve the perfection of photoshop using the human hand.
