BBC Radio 1 plan to launch a video channel on BBC iPlayer to air exclusive interviews and performances. The player will be available via laptop, TV, tablet and smartphone, and will include music recorded in Radio 1's Live Lounge, featured interviews, special performances, and much more.

"I'm very excited about transforming Radio 1 from being just a radio station into being a full audio-visual channel," says controller of BBC Radio 1 & 1Xtra Ben Cooper. "Radio 1 has always pioneered innovative ideas and led the way in engaging with young people and this is another huge step in cementing that reputation."

Although the new feature was announced this morning Nick Grimshaw's Breakfast show, an official launch date is yet to be properly announced. [via FACT]
