If I was a betting man I'd put my money on Beachdown Festival claiming a few gongs when the festival awards season comes around because frankly, who would spend their August bank holiday at Reading Festival when they could spend it in Brighton overlooking the sea? Anyway, heres some more info for you to digest! The festival, which returns to its beautiful location overlooking the sea on the picturesque South Downs next August bank holiday weekend (28th – 31st August), is pleased to announce the first wave of local acts to be confirmed. These are funk favourites Mean Poppa Lean, minimalist punk-folk trio Drookit Dogs, bluesy post-punkers Sweet Sweet Lies, hotly-tipped popsters Gloria Cycles and sleazy rock ‘n’ rollers The Perils.  Other exciting local artists confirmed are The Beautiful Word, Portslade, Los Albertos, Ocean Reid, Chris Simmons, Seeker, Two Spot Gobi and reggae act Rebel Control whose set last year was a Friday night highlight. Early Bird tickets for Beachdown Festival 2009 are on sale and selling fast for the bargain price of £85 – get in quick to avoid disappointment! These come with 1 free child ticket (3-12 years old) per adult ticket purchased and the choice of a complimentary deck chair, 2 T-Shirts or drinks tokens that can be redeemed in any of the bars on site, all of which are worth £30!  In addition to the above there are also 500 reduced rate child tickets on sale for the bargain price of £45. All children under the age of 2 get in for free. Beachdown is also proud to announce that Favela Chic will be taking up a 4-day residency in its own purpose-built and designed arena complete with a full Latin artist and DJ line-up. For those who aren’t familiar, Favela Chic is the self professed bastard brainchild of a Franco-Brazilian marriage with recent English adoptions, it is a bar, restaurant, club, carnivale, an East End knees up, a bordello and none of the above! Favela Chic is three years young in London and twelve years old in Paris, it has a Brazilian cuisine, a French style and a London attitude. The first confirmed acts for Beachdown Festival 2009 are St Etienne, Grandmaster Flash, Norman Jay, Gilles Peterson, The Fall, The Blockheads, Sugarhill Gang, James Taylor Quartet, The New Mastersounds, Dreadzone, Secret Affair, Jah Shaka Sound System (4 day residency) and Jazzanova!
