Smack-dab in the wilds of the Yorkshire Dales is the supreme northern light, Beacons Festival. Returning for its third instalment, again near its namesake the Beamsley Beacons, it's set to be the event's most impressive display yet. Bolstering reputation year on year (it in fact grew by 50% percent in 2013),

Organised and run by a taut team of musos, artists and general creative types, the festival always impresses with its line-up; instead of a cabal of paunchy execs grabbed buzz-bands like pick'n'mix, the Beacons' collective cherry-plucks each act with care. Boy, does it show. It's a line-up stuffed with so much gold you'd think it was Fort Knox. Expect the likes of The Fall, Sivu, East India Youth, Neneh Cherry, Fat White Family, Joanna Gruesome, DZ Deathrays, King Creosote, Jon Hopkins, Glass Animals, Racing Glaciers, Speedy Ortiz, Moko, Woman's Hour, PINS, Yumi Zouma, Pawws, Rejjie Snow and Charli XCX.

Beacons' ethos is an intriguing one; rather than gunning for one goal of 'great times' or something similar, they strive to tightrope-walk between adventure and affordability. Food is high on the agenda too, with renowned outlets like (but certainly not limited to), Piggy Smalls Flatbreads Diamond Dogs, Motherclucker's Fried Chicken, Manjit's Kitchen, Gandhi's Flip-Flop and Patty Smith's Burgers. Desserts are well-catered also, with Indie Ices, Yummy Yorkshire and Senor Churros in attendance. So if you're hankerin' for a lassi treat or a right, proper scrumptious lentil dahl, or even just a blood-drip chunk of meat, Beacons will fill that gut-tank.

With a blinding roster of visual treats, filmic goodness, wondrous theatre, art, food, drink, sculpture, dance and, of course, music, Beacons 2014 will surely cement them as a must-visit event of the year.
