London based singer/songwriter Raheem Bakaré is about to unleash the video to 'Forever You' - the first track to be taken from his forthcoming second EP (due later this year). We went behind the scenes with him to find out what we can expect from his first EP in two years, as well as the inspirations behind 'Forever You'.

Tell us a little bit about 'Forever You'. What was the inspiration behind the track?

It transpired at a time when I had writing block because I was trying to write about songs that were happy or just about random situations, when really and truly I needed to address certain things that I was going through. It was a very personal song about things that I went through with an ex-partner, touching on that subject and things that I spoke about with those around me at the time.

Why did you pick this as your new release?

I really liked the vibe of it, it had a nice sound and it all just came together. I checked out what MJ Nicholls had done with other artists and I was a fan of his work so it was a good opportunity to showcase that. Funnily enough, it was one of the last tracks I did for the EP yet one of the first to come out.

It's been two years since your AWOL EP, what's changed the most for you in two years?

In that time I would say I've improved a lot vocally, I listen to a wider variety of music now and my style's changed. It's still true to R&B because that's what I love, but there's elements of soul, some indie - I take inspiration from different genres. It's definitely a more evolved sound; it's forever changing and even at the end of this EP I still feel as though my sound is about to change some more.

In that time, you've released a couple of collaborations, what else have you been working on?

I've been working on just learning and growing as a person. Coming into music I didn't really know a lot about myself and you get faced with a lot of questions, it's hard knowing where to go if you don't really know what you like. You get so caught up in going to the studio, posting this posting that, or doing this show and that show, ultimately you forget to be human. I've also been working on the music video for 'Forever You', I flew out to Holland to shoot some of it and the rest was shot here in London. I'm really excited about that, I don't want to say too much but it's different; it's not me singing in front of a camera or anything like that. I'm working on more videos for the upcoming EP, I've also done a couple of shows, one of which I was blessed enough to open up for Bilal, Musiq Soulchild as well.

These are people that I've been following since I was very young and always been a fan of so to share the same stage with them was surreal. The funny thing about it was at the Musiq Soulchild concert, a lot of people that were backstage were people I grew up with, people that were friends of friends from church, and it was really cool to see that we've all made the journey together.

Who have you worked with on your forthcoming EP?

I just went away and worked with people that I'd known a while and people that I trust. There's a producer called Mars I've worked with on some of it, a guy called Zak from RedRooms, different people. People send me samples and chops all day long so I can always find something to fit my sound.

What can we expect from your forthcoming music?

There's definitely going to be more of a hip-hop influence. I felt like the first EP was pretty soft, not to say this one won't be but I'm growing more conscious every day and getting better all the time at understanding how to express my emotions within a song. Some of my earlier stuff might have been really ambiguous, this material will be a lot more honed into specific situations that people can relate to. I'm just excited for the world to enjoy the music with me.

Raheem is seen wearing pieces from Alexander McQueen, Blood Brothers and GStar. The shoot was styled by Tiwa Jenyo and filmed in both London and Amsterdam.
