Perhaps seeking to take the country air and avoid that totally obnoxious, city slicker of an ex-wife, Ben Gibbard (of Death Cab For Cutie fame) has today unleashed the country-tinged 'Something's Rattling (Cowpoke)'. Sounding a bit like a sedate version of Cash's 'Ring of Fire' with its "ooo-ing" female backing vocals and the punctuating brass stabs, Gibbard croons his way through what feels like a bit of an unexpected turn for one of Indie's most dependable elder statesmen.

While the "Cowpoke" reference in the title is kinda obvious in terms of what direction 'Something’s Rattling' will take before you’ve even pressed play, Gibbard is smarter than to release a poor song and as ever, it's a well-written and wonderfully constructed piece of music, if a bit of a stylistic curveball.
