The wonderful talent that is Benjamin Francis Leftwich is going on an impressive looking tour soon, as you can see below. We caught up with him briefly to chat about his busy schedule, his new album and summer festivals.

This interview is on the eve of some pretty hectic looking tour dates - how do you feel about your schedule?

It will be great to play all the festivals this summer; I’m really looking forward to my Irish dates too. I love playing live so yeah I’m really looking forward to nailing all the festivals this summer and then doing my big tour in October.

Which festival are you looking forward to playing the most?

I think Leeds Festival just because I went a lot as a kid and it's our big local one back home.

What venue are you looking forward to most?

I'm really looking forward to headlining Union Chapel on my October tour. I've played there once before and it's a really amazing venue!

You're touring with your début album coming out - tell us a bit about how you made it?

We made the album over the course of a year in a church hall in Finsbury Park in North London. It was an amazing place to record and Ian Grimble produced it and he had a really positive input on the record. Ian is really good sonically and knows his way around all the little sounds that we used a lot on the record. It was great to work with such a patient and meticulous producer but at the same time, Ian still really got the whole vibe we were going for and I think we all have good memories of making, "Last Smoke Before the Snowstorm".

What are your favourite tracks on it?

I don't have favourite tracks really, I like them all. It's kind of hard for me to be objective about my own music because I’m so involved in it all the time. I guess I have the best memories of recording '1904' just because it was so fun to do.

What bands or artists do you think we should be looking out for? Who's out there that's underappreciated at the moment?

A singer/songwriter from Ireland called Foy Vance is amazing! He tours a lot and seems to have his own thing going on. His album ‘Hope’ is so good, I think he's a really honest writer and all the production on his stuff is gorgeous as well.

Also, a band called The Bronze Medal from Bristol. I saw them play at Intro Festival in Middlesbrough and they were amazing! Really cool indie with really awesome songs.
