Billboard has released the annual top 40 list of the highest earners in the music industry, with country pop icon Taylor Swift earning the most in 2013.

The Pennsylvania-born singer/songwriter earned roughly $9 million from her Grammy-nominated album Red, but earned her keep with an estimated $30 million from tour dates and merchandising. She added a partnership with Diet Coke to her resume to go along with deals with companies like Sony and Target, among others.

Following behind was country music star Kenny Chesney, taking in nearly $33 million in 2013. Pop mega-star and dreamboat actor Justin Timberlake wasn't far behind Chesney, coming in at nearly $31.5 million on the heels of his two 20/20 Experience studio albums. Classic rock vets Bon Jovi and The Rolling Stones rounded out the top five, due to massively successful touring.

The list was mostly dominated by pop and country stars. Among the 40 earners, only four rappers appeared; Jay Z, Kanye West, Lil' Wayne, and Eminem, who just slid in at #39. Recent Saturday Night Live performers and Grammy winners Imagine Dragons were perhaps the biggest surprise entrant on the list, earning nearly $10 million.
